Energy Performance Certification of Air Conditioning Installations

Air conditioning systems account for a major part of the energy consumed in a building especially in countries with a hot, damp, Mediterranean climates like Malta. As a result, any improvement in the performance of an air conditioning installation is likely to deliver significant results in terms of energy savings.

As from January 2009, in accordance with the European Union's Energy Performance in Buildings Directive (EPBD) and the Maltese Energy Performance of Buildings Regulations, air conditioning installations with a rating larger than 12kW (41000 BTU/h) require to be inspected and certified by an independent assessor every five years.

Econing can help you by carrying out inspections on air conditioning installations. Inspections will be carried out by qualified and experienced engineers accredited as assessors to perform such appraisals.

We will assess the efficiency of your installation including chillers, cooling towers, air handling units, fan coil units, VRFs and split units as applicable. We will indicate possible improvements to the system or any other alternative solutions which, if adopted, will have the potential to provide substantial savings with a reasonable payback period. We will also provide professional, unbiased advice on possible queries should you wish to, in future, replace any of your air conditioning equipment.

We will also indicate how building owners and managers should prepare and keep information on their air conditioning installations so that the time needed to carry out mandatory inspections, and hence their cost, can be minimised.
